What
do you like most about being a hair stylist?
Being able to brighten someone's mood in about an hour.
What made you decide to go into hair styling?
It was after one of my first "salon" experiences, as opposed
to going to the barber shop. Anyway, I thought to myself, wow these guys
don't have to sit behind a desk. They aren't stuck in an office, make good
money and make people happy all day!
Are
there any colleagues that you look up to?
Definitely, for starters Antoine Spinelli, Bottega Antoine. He is an amazing
showman. Put him on stage with anyone and he will shine. Next, would be
Ron Lee, Elevations Salon, S.F. Ron is an amazing cutter, probably the
best ever. He has a soft style, yet always keeps clear the bigger picture.
Also Michael Gordon, Bumble & Bumble, owner. In the past 10 years,
Michael has done what Vidal Sassoon once did years ago, yet no one else
since. He has helped elevate the profession by empowering staff and the
network, with the tools to succeed artistically and financially, definitely
a modern genius.
What
was your craziest hairstyle?
Don't know the name for it, but it was a short clipper variation. The
back had a wedge, the crown clippered short, the front was textured out
which a bunch of mouse to make it full. These were Flock of Seagulls days,
so don't judge. Didn't keep it long, it was a bit much overall. Don't
tell anybody!
What
was your greatest hair moment?
Cutting my Mom's hair when I got back from hair school. She was so proud,
even though I cut it a bit too short. It felt great to make her happy!
