What causes grey hair?
As we mature, a biological process causes some hair to grow back without
pigment., gradually more non-pigmented hair will appear.

Does
pulling out my grey hairs make more grow back? No! Only one hair will
grow back from pulling one hair. Keep in mind that as the years go by,
naturally, you will have less non-grey hair and more grey hair. Which
means you will have exponentially less hair on you head! So don't pull
them out! Color them and you will have lots of great looking hair!

Is
grey hair healthier? It is stiffer, more wirey and dry, due to less
natural oil. This makes using appropriate styling products, such as leave-in
conditioners or crèmes all the more important.

Does
grey hair take longer for color processing? Yes. The decreased levels
of certain metals in grey hair cause it to take about 15% longer to process.
However, in most cases, an infra-red processor will cut the processing
time in half, without increasing damage to the hair.

Does
coloring my grey hair make it easier to style? In most cases, colored
hair is more plyable and makes styling more long lasting. It will hold
curled or straightened hair longer.

Does
the progression of color services, such as highlighting, then going darker,
then highlighting again, cause the hair to be overly damaged? Yes!
Once the first highlights have been covered with a darker color, it will
becomes difficult not to damage them during the second highlight as the
previously highlighted hair will likely be exposed to two full strength
applications. If the first highlighted hair is almost grown out,
then it wouldn't be too bad. Going darker doesn't generally cause much
damage, as a low volume peroxide or even better, a demi-permanent color
can be used. Cutting your hair shorter at the time of the second highlight,
will help the overall health of the hair. Plan your color changes wisely!
While getting your haircut, discuss possible color ideas your stylist..
It's best to plan your hair color for a year ahead.

Do
highlights lighten more a month after getting them? Yes, they can
lighten 1/2 to 2 shades, depending on sun exposure, water rinsing temperature
and/or using shampoo that is too strong. So it's wise to do subtle highlights
in the beginning.

Is
there a way to make my highlight re-growth less obvious? Of course
having less contrast between the base color and the highlighted hair will
give a more subtle demarcation line when re-growth appears. Chunkier weaves
may also help regrowth look less obvious.

I've
had highlights for a while now and want to go darker, but not back to
natural. Are there any other options? Yes, lowlights are a great option
for overly highlighted hair. Lowlights are just highlights that are darker
than the base color. Lowlights are done with a milder color formula and
chunkier weaves than when highlighting. This can make the hair look much
healthier as well as making re-growth less obvious. If you have re-growth
already, highlighting the root area at the same time doing lowlights through
the ends, will save time and money in the long run.

What
is the difference between a partial and full highlight? A partial
highlight is done most often. It highlights the front hairline and top
of the head. With a long layered hairstyle, it's normally all you need
as with natural looking highlights, the bottom area of the back of your
head wouldn't be highlighted. If you tie your hair up often, the back
hairline can be done as well, so as not to get a two toned effect. With
highlights that are 3 shades or more lighter than the base color, a full-head
highlights may be appropriate.

Do I need to do a full-head highlight every time?
No. You only need to do full-head highlight when natural looking highlights
are desired with more than 3 shades difference between the base color
and the highlights. In this instance, a partial or even two partial root
highlight touch-ups can be done between the full-head highlight appointments.

What
can I do to lessen fading of my colored hair? First, use lukewarm
to cool water for rinsing. Second, always use a shampoo made for color
treated hair. Third, always use a hat while in the direct sun, nothing
else is effective enough in blocking sun-damage. Forth, when coming out
of chlorinated water or salt-water, rinse you hair well with fresh water,
then apply a leave-in conditiner. Do not let you hair dry without rinsing
well!
